The Arizona Diamondbacks star 2nd Baseman Ketel Marte is injured

Prior to the 2nd game of the Arizona Diamondbacks and LA Dodgers doubleheader, Ketel Marte was scratched from the lineup. This is not good at all as it means that Marte is injured. Upon waiting a few long minutes on Twitter, I discovered this tweet regarding Marte's status.

Jake is an MLB Reporter. Losing Marte for any kind of time is not good at all. He's one of the engines of the offense and the team's star hitter. Ketel started slowly at the plate this year but had really turned it on as of late. Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, in Game 1, Marte had gone 2-2 with 2 singles and 2 RBI.

Overall, in the young season, Marte is hitting .219/.299/.383/.681 with 13 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HRs, and 9 RBI. However, over his last 14 games, Marte was hitting .353/.452/.615/1.053 with 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 HR to with 8 walks to only 9 Ks. It's clear Ketel was once again finding his stroke at the plate.

The team can't afford to lose him for any long length of time so hopefully, this hand soreness is just that. It's just soreness and won't require an IL stint. If it does, it has to be for only 10 days. I don't want to see who plays 2nd for the Dbacks after they just lost Nick Ahmed too.

Keynan Middleton was placed on the 15-day IL Edwin Uceta called up

To make things worse, the Diamondbacks had to place hard-throwing reliever Middleton on the IL due to right elbow inflammation. That's a scary sign as that's one of the common terms for players being placed on the IL that eventually get Tommy John Surgery. I hope that isn't the case for Middleton as no pitcher deserves that.

Middleton had been pitching well of late. He had a string of 5 scoreless appearances. Overall, he's pitched in 6 games with a 1-1 record, a 3.86 ERA, 4.2 innings pitched, with 2 runs given up, 1 walk, and 5 Ks. FIP didn't like his pitching so far as it gave him a 7.17. Middleton was one of the few Dbacks pitchers who could routinely hit upper-90s velocity.

Feel better soon Keynan. Replacing him is former Dodgers prospect Edwin Uceta who was on the taxi squad. This will be his 2nd stint with the Dbacks in the MLB this year. Uceta struggled in his first go-round throwing only 1.2 innings across 2 games. He gave up 2 runs, allowed a hit, walked 2, hit a batter, and didn't strike out any. Not the best start one could have.

Uceta does feature a strong fastball and was the arm that was on the taxi squad that could be recalled really quick. The team travels with a 3-man taxi squad to quickly reload their roster in event of an injury right before a game. This time, it came in handy as Uceta was already in LA.

Let's go Dbacks and hope that Ketel Marte is okay and can play tomorrow or in a couple of days!
