2017: OF Pavin Smith (Arizona Diamondbacks)

With the 7th overall pick in the 2017 MLB draft, Arizona selected Virginia university outfielder Pavin Smith.  Pavin broke into the bigs in 2020 and has remained there ever since.  In 232 major league games, Pavin has hit 21 HRs, 86 RBIs, and has an OPS of .712.  With a crowded outfield, Smith may find his playing time dwindling more and more each season…

2018: IF Matt McLain (Cincinnati Reds organization)

With the 25th overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected high school shortstop Matt McLain.  The only problem was, McLain decided to go to college and he re-entered the draft.  The Cincinnati Reds took him with the 17th overall pick in the 2021 draft.  In 2022, McLain spent the entire season at the AA level.  Over the course of 103 games, he hit 17 HRs, 58 RBIs, and finished the season with an OPS of .816…

2018: OF Jake McCarthy (Arizona Diamondbacks)

With the 39th overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected university of Virginia outfielder Jake McCarthy.  Ah yes, good ol’ Jake the snake.  A man that might become a fan favorite for Diamondbacks fans over the next couple of seasons.  Playing his first full season in the bigs in 22’, McCarthy hit 8 HRs, 43 RBIs, and finished the season with a .769 OPS…

2019: OF Corbin Carroll (Arizona Diamondbacks)

Speaking of fan favorites, Carroll is sure to wow Arizona fans this upcoming season.  With the 16th overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected OF Corbin Carroll out of Lakeside high school.  In 32 games with the Diamondbacks in 2022, Carroll hit 4 HRs, 14 RBIs, and registered an OPS of .830…

2019: SP Blake Walston (Amarillo Sod Poodles)

With the 26th overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected pitcher Blake Walston out of New Hanover high school.  In 2022, Walston spent most of his time with the Diamondbacks AA affiliate the Sod Poodles.  In 21 AA starts, Walston went 7-3 with a 5.16 ERA and a .280 BAA.  Let’s hope 2023 is a bounce-back season for the highly regarded prospect…

2019: P Brennan Malone (Bradenton Marauders)

With the 33rd overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected pitcher Brennan Malone from IMG academy.  Malone is currently in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization where he pitched for their single-A affiliate last season.  From 2019-2022, Malone has pitched 27 minor league innings and has recorded a 2-2 record with a 4.67 ERA…

2019: SP Drey Jameson (Arizona Diamondbacks)

With the 34th overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected pitcher Drey Jameson out of Ball State University.  This is a name D-backs fans should get to know.  Jameson spent most of 22’ in the minors where over the course of 26 games he recorded a 7-13 record with a 6.31 ERA.  Yes, those numbers are not pretty.  But when Jameson got the call to the bigs he went 3-0 with a 1.48 ERA in 4 starts.  Jameson will be battling this spring training for the 5th spot in the Diamondbacks rotation…

2020: SP Bryce Jarvis (Amarillo Sod Poodles)

With the 18th overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected pitcher Bryce Jarvis from Duke University.  Jarvis had a 22’ season he and the Diamondbacks organization would like to forget.  In 25 starts, Jarvis went 3-6 with an 8.27 ERA and a .325 BAA.  The potential is there as he averages more than a strikeout per inning, but man, Jarvis better figure it out or he won’t be starting games anymore.  Let’s see if his invite to spring training can give him the boost of confidence he needs…

2020: SP Slade Cecconi (Amarillo Sod Poodles)

With the 33rd overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected pitcher Slade Cecconi from Miami University.  I just have to say, what a sweet name.  In 2022 Slade had a solid campaign in AA; in 25 starts Cecconi went 7-6 with a 4.37 ERA.  Slade has been invited to spring training where he hopes to open some eyes to his ability on the mound…

2021: SS Jordan Lawlar (Amarillo Sod Poodles)

With the 6th overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected shortstop Jordan Lawlar from Jesuit Dallas high school.  Lawlar is currently a top 5 prospect for the Arizona Diamondbacks.  In 2022, Lawlar spent most of his time with Arizona’s low A team the Visalia Rawhide.  In 44 low A games, Lawlar hit 9 HRs, 32 RBIs, and posted a 1.050 OPS.  He wound up finishing the year in AA with the Sod Poodles.  Fans should be very excited about the potential of this young shortstop and they will get a glimpse of him this spring training…

2022: OF Druw Jones (ACL D-backs Black)

With the 6th overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected outfielder Druw Jones out of Wesleyan high school.  Jones will start his professional baseball career with the ACL D-backs black in 2023.  If he is anything like his dad Andruw Jones, Druw is in store for an outstanding major league career in Arizona…

2022: P Landon Sims (ACL D-backs Black)

With the 34th overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks selected pitcher Landon Sims from Mississippi State University.  In his college career, Sims put video game numbers.  In 85 innings pitched, he went 6-2 with a 1.69 ERA, a .152 BAA, and he struck out 150 batters.  150 strikeouts in 85 innings; that is insane.  He did all this in arguably the best conference in baseball, the SEC.  Fans should be excited…
