The Diamondbacks have been around since 1998 and have played 29 different MLB teams.  Arizona fares well against some teams, but others, not so much…

Worst head-to-head record: St. Louis Cardinals (63-103)

It is always best to get the bad out of the way first.  Why do the Cardinals have to cause us so much pain?  It’s bad enough they took our best player in franchise history in a lopsided trade; now we have to deal with the fact that they have won 62% of the games we have played against them.  Pain…

The latest series against St. Louis went along perfectly with the history of this matchup.  The Cardinals swept the Diamondbacks 3-0.  In those 3 games, the Cardinals outscored the Diamondbacks 27-12; yikes.  To make matters worse, Paul Goldschmidt tallied 7 hits, 2 HRs, and 6 RBIs in those 3 games.  Hopefully, the Diamondbacks can change history this upcoming season.  Arizona and St. Louis will square off 6 times in 2023; two 3-game series, one home, one away.  In a perfect world, the Diamondbacks will have 69 career wins against the Cardinals come July 26, 2023…

Best head-to-head record: Pittsburgh Pirates (94-69)

Technically, the Diamondbacks have better head-to-head records against the White Sox (13-5) and the Orioles (14-7).  Since Arizona hasn’t even played 25 games against either team, however, their record against Pitsbrugh better shows their dominance against an opponent…

The Diamondbacks have won 58% of their matchups against the Pirates and the run differential; +154 in favor of Arizona.  The last series against the Pirates took place last August and in a 4-game set at Chase Field, the Diamondbacks won the series 3-1.  Arionza outscored Pittsburgh 22-13.  Notable performances from the series came from Zac Gallen and Ketel Marte.  Zac Gallen opened the series with 7 shutout innings and 8 strikeouts; picking up the win.  Ketel Marte finished the series with 5 RBIs, recording at least 1 RBI in every game.  The Diamondbacks will play the Pirates 6 times, 3 home, and 3 away in 2023.  With an improved squad, Arizona has to feel confident going into this matchup that they have dominated since 1998…
