Monday night was as clean of a win as the Diamondbacks may experience all season.  In a 3-0 win, no runs were given up, no errors were made, and catcher Gabriel Moreno threw out the only attempted steal of the night; a complete team victory, that was as I said, especially clean.

The D-backs are now 7-4, sitting atop the NL West standings.  They will be right back at it Tuesday night where they will once again, face the Brew Crew.  The season is still very young, but Milwaukee has yet to lose back-to-back games, so Arizona will really have to bring their A-game tonight.

Diamondbacks vs Brewers pitching matchup

Game 2 will feature a pitching matchup between Arizona’s 2nd man in the rotation Merrill Kelly, and Brewers ace Corbin Burnes.  In two starts for Kelly this season, he is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA along with 8 punch outs across 9.1 innings.  For Burnes, he has struggled through two starts giving up 10 earned runs and 5 walks across 9.1 innings.

Despite the struggles, Corbin Burnes might be the best pitcher Arizona has seen all season (Julio Urias maybe?).  Last year, Burnes went 12-8 with a 2.94 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP.  On top of that, in 15 away starts last season Burnes recorded a 2.83 ERA and struck out 98 batters in 92.1 innings.  But hey, there is hope for the D-backs!  In Corbin’s one and only start at Chase Field a season ago, he gave up 5 earned runs!

For Kelly, he was dominant at home in 2022.  In 17 home starts, Kelly recorded a 3.02 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  Also going for Kelly is that in two starts against the Brew Crew last season, Merrill pitched 13 innings, gave up only 1 run, and struck out 14 batters.  On paper, Kelly has the advantage in this specific matchup.

Diamondbacks vs Brewers: Who's hot on offense?

For the Diamondbacks, second basemen Ketel Marte has been raking.  Over the last 7 days, Marte has 7 hits in 16 ABs (.438 AVG).  4 of those 7 hits are doubles, not to mention that he has also scored 6 times.  In his last two games, he is 5 for 8 with 3 extra-base hits and 5 runs!  Red hot!

For the Brew Crew, shortstop Willy Adames is locked in.  Over the last 7 days, Adames is 6-17 (.353 AVG).  Out of those 6 hits, 2 are home runs, and 1 is a double.  He has scored 4 times, knocked in 4 runs, and has also walked 3 times over this span.  On Easter Sunday, Adames went 3-4 with a double and a homer, while also knocking in 3 runs.
