The Dbacks took their first game of the series against the Dodgers last night. It was the first time in 8 contests that they defeated Los Angeles. Tonight they go for the series victory, their second of the season against the Dodgers. In order for that to happen, De La Rosa will need to avenge his terrible performances.

Arizona (37-39) and Los Angeles (43-35) are coming off a slug fest in which both clubs smacked 10+ hits. The Dodgers hit 3 homers while the Dbacks hit 2. At the moment, Los Angeles maintains a 5 game lead over Arizona in the National League West.

Here are the probable pitchers.

Carlos Frias (5-5, 4.31 ERA, 39 K) vs Rubby De La Rosa (6-3, 4.69 ERA, 87 K)

Another benefactor of the Dodgers’ injury woes at pitcher, Frias has cooled off after having a hot start to 2015. After pitching his first two games of 2015 as a reliever, Frias’ season debut at starter came against the Dbacks on May 1st. He hasn’t been able to get out of the 6th inning in his last 3 starts.

Frias’ last outing came against the Chicago Cubs. It was a victorious effort in which he pitched 5 scoreless innings and struck out 5. Frias has shown a vulnerability to surrendered hits. Every single one of his starts (except his first), Frias has given up 5 or more hits. He’s given up double digit hits on two occasions this season.

De La Rosa is currently on one of those pretty efficient stretches. Throughout his career, he’s been inconsistent. However, when he’s on his high, his stuff is absolutely magnificent. He’s one of the three amigos (Hellickson and Anderson) to pitch in all of his scheduled starts. Rubby appears to be the headliner of the rotation at the moment.

In his last three starts (22 IP), De La Rosa is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 16 strikeouts. De La Rosa’s last start was a 7 inning gem in which he only allowed a run and 5 hits (at Coors Field). Unfortunately, his bullpen wasn’t able to get the game to Ziegler and he had to settle for a no decision. De La Rosa was also drafted by Los Angeles and was traded alongside Webster to Boston and Arizona.
