More from Diamondbacks News

The 1st inning of the game saw the Dbacks get out to an early lead, just like all the games in the series. Ender Inciarte led off the game with a single and Yasmany Tomas drove him in with a 2 out double. In the bottom half of the inning, Archie Bradley struggled mightily. The Marlins ripped off four hits and managed to cross the plate three times for an early 3-1 lead.

In the 2nd inning, Jordan Pacheco singled and quickly stole 2nd base. Bases were merely handed out, not stolen in this series. Later in the inning, Inciarte drove in Pacheco to cut down the deficit. In the 4th inning, after a leadoff triple, the Marlins were able to regain a two run advantage.

The Dbacks exploded in the 6th inning. They loaded up the bases with no outs and started to go to work. Pacheco’s sacrifice fly cut the deficit back to one. Cliff Pennington‘s double tied the game at four. Aaron Hill came in to pinch hit and drove in a run via sacrifice fly. Inciarte drove in another run. By the end of the inning, the Dbacks took over the lead 6-4.

Yet again, Bradley wasn’t at his best. He threw 5 innings and got hit around to the tune of nine knocks. Bradley surrendered four runs for the 2nd straight game. Mat Latos  lasted 5 1/3 innings and gave up seven hits with six runs. Neither starter would factor into the decision.

The bridge to the end of the game was another bumpy one. Randall Delgado came in but quickly surrendered the Arizona advantage. The game was again tied. Just like in the 6th, the Dbacks loaded the bases with no outs in the 8th. Inciarte flew out to Giancarlo Stanton, who promptly threw out the runner trying to score. It was an A.J. Pollock infield single the did give the Dbacks a slight 7-6 lead.

The 8th and 9th innings were taken care by Addison Reed and Brad Ziegler. They were the definition of efficiency. They combined for 20 pitches, 17 strikes, and 4 strikeouts. Andrew Chafin (2-0) was credited with the victory and Sam Dyson (2-1) took the loss.

Arizona (19-21) will head back to Chase Field to take on the Chicago Cubs for a weekend series.
