The Arizona Diamondbacks will play host to the Chicago Cubs for a weekend series that will start on Friday night. Chicago is coming off defeating San Diego 2-of-3 times and Arizona is coming off a four game sweep of Miami. The Cubs have won the last three series and are led by some young studs. The Dbacks will look to extend their season-long 4-game winning streak.
Yasmany Tomas is currently on a 6-game hitting streak, all of them multi-hit games. A.J. Pollock hit a game-winning home run in the Miami series and later on in the week stole three bases in a game. Ender Inciarte picked up six hits in the series against Miami.
Probable Pitchers
Jon Lester (4-2, 3.70 ERA, 47 K) vs Josh Collmenter (3-5, 5.36 ERA, 22 K)
Lester was the big offseason acquisition for the Chicago Cubs. The organization’s strength in position players is absolutely profound and they need to compliment their stellar hitting with competent pitching. Lester is currently on a five game quality start streak and four game winning streak. His last outing was a 7 inning, 7 strikeout performance against Pittsburgh.
Collmenter is now the sore thumb of the starting rotation. How quick things can change. Collmenter has lost his last two starts. His last outing was a 6 inning effort where allowed 4 runs and took a defeat at the hands of Philadelphia. Collmenter may still be rattled from the debacle against Washington. If he wished to remain in the top of the rotation, he needs to step it up.
