Sorry, but felt I had to with that title. The fight for the NL West 3rd Place is on. This weekend the Dbacks will travel to beautiful San Diego for a weekend series against the Padres. Only 1.5 games separate the 3rd place Diamondbacks and the 4th place Padres. After the series is done and over with, one team will be closer to disrupting the NL West hierarchy, while the other will be closer to taking residence in the NL West cellar.
Arizona (35-37) is coming off a disappointing series loss in Denver. The Dbacks lost 2 of 3 games to the Rockies. San Diego (35-40) is coming off a series loss of their own. After winning their series opener against San Francisco, the Padres were smacked around in the following two games by the Giants. The Dbacks are currently 5 games back from 1st place while the Padres are 6.5 games back.
This is series is a potential momentum shift for Arizona. So let’s get reacquainted.
