The Dbacks will get a lineup reinforcement right out of the All Star break with Ender Inciarte returning from injury. Inciarte hasn’t seen major league action in over a month, but at the time of his injury he was an integral part of the Dbacks batting order. Inciarte’s return is sure to create a logjam among the Arizona outfielders and third basemen.
On June 15th, Inciarte suffered a hamstring strain against the Los Angeles Angels in an interleague matchup. Inciarte spent time this season spliting center field with A.J. Pollock and was the preferred choice by Chip Hale to lead off the batting lineup. At the time of his injury, Inciarte was actually in the midst of a slump, seeing his average dip below .300.

The Inciarte absence opened the door for an at the time slumping David Peralta. Peralta has since shown a power stroke and has risen his batting average to a respectable to .267. It also gave Hale the opportunity to slot both Jake Lamb and Yasmany Tomas in the same lineup, with the former at third base while the latter was sent to right field. Both rookies are also great options with Lamb hitting .280 and Tomas hitting .313.
It’ll be the first time this season that Pollock, Inciarte, Peralta, Tomas and Lamb will all be on the same roster. To begin the season, Tomas was still learning the ropes in the minors. Later on in the season, Lamb suffered his injury and Inciarte suffered his injury before Lamb could return. Now Chip Hale will enjoy balancing this carousel of talented ball players.
The 24-year old Inciarte had a good showing in his rehab assignments, going 8-for-25 with a homer. Inciarte walked 4 times and only struck out twice in appearances with Mobile (AA) and the Arizona League. Inciarte figures to find himself back in the top of the lineup in no time. Look for Inciarte to return to the Dbacks lineup tonight against the San Francisco Giants in a crucial matchup between two teams looking to make ground in the NL West division.
