Before today’s series opener against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that they have placed RHP Jeremy Hellickson on the 15 day D.L. with a strained left hamstring and recalled RHP Chase Anderson from Triple-A Reno.

The Diamondbacks announced the move on their official twitter account.

Hellickson had to leave his last start on Monday night early after throwing 5 1/3 innings allowing just one run on three hits.

Hellickson appeared to be shaken up in the 6th inning and the whole training staff came out along with Manager Chip Hale. He would leave the game after walking Andrew McCutchen.

On the plane coming to Pittsburg, Hellickson got sick, didn’t hydrate Sunday night, and he didn’t eat before his start. As a result Hellickson felt fatigued, and his glute muscle tightened up on him.

This season Hellickson is 9-8 with a 4.60 ERA in 23 starts across 129.0 innings pitched. In his last 5 starts across 27.1 innings pitched, he is 3-2 with a 3.62 ERA.

Chase Anderson was demoted to the Aces just yesterday by the Diamondbacks after he struggled in his last start against the Pirates allowing seven runs, five of them earned in 4.2 innings pitched.

In the months of July and August, Anderson is 1-3 with a 7.04 ERA . In his first start after returning to the rotation from the D.L., he allowed no runs in 7.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts.
